Mississippi teachers make less than their counterparts nationally in the 50 states and the District of Columbia, but when Mississippi’s low cost of living is taken into account, the state’s rank jumps to 35th nationally.

The chamber’s data guru takes a deep dive into Berks County’s cost of living.

The Columbia Chamber of Commerce said its new study shows the cost of living in town was 7.1 percent below the national average. The chamber got the numbers from the the ACCRA Cost of Living Index provided by the Council for Community and Economic Research.

Lower than average costs for housing and utilities helped give the area that includes Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando counties a relatively low cost of living.
